"[In] the mosque, when the call for prayer is sounded and worshippers are gathered together, the democracy of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and king kneel side by side and proclaim: 'God Alone is Great.'"
Islamic Democracy, (also known as Islamic Modernism, Islamic Liberalism, or Moderate Islamism) is an ideology that attempts to adapt the principles of the Quran with liberal ideas. Whilst believing that Islam is the correct religion, he also believes it must adapt to modern times, and adapt liberal western ideas like democracy, human rights, pluralism, and the rule of law. He forms a middle position between
Secularism and
Islamic Theocracy, believing that Islam should still have an active role in the state and society but that the state should also be democratic and shouldn't impose strict sharia. He aspires to be seen as the Muslim equivalent to
Christian Democracy.
History
In the 19th century Nahda, intellectuals like Muhammed Abduh tried to combine
Islam with liberal values. This line of thought led to the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood under Hasan Al-Banna in 1928.
For the next few decades, Islamic Democracy was eclipsed by rival ideologies like
Ba'athism and
Marxism-Leninism, but became more popular in the 1970s due to a collapse in faith in the ability of Ba'athism to defeat
Zionism, as well as American support to counter communism.
He initially played a role in the
1979 Iranian Revolution, but was betrayed by
Khomeinism for being too liberal.
Since then he has come to prominence in many countries such as
Turkey,
Malaysia,
Indonesia,
Morocco, and
Tunisia. He initially rose in power in
Egypt after the 2011 Arab Spring, but was then overthrown in a coup in 2013.
Islamic Democracy has been accused of being a tactic of
Islamic Theocracy to deceive secularists and liberals in order to win elections, and then to Islamify the state either quickly over a few years or gradually over many years. An example of this is in
Turkey, where throughout the 00s the 'Turkish Model' was cited as an example for how political Islam could be compatible with democracy, however, starting in 2008 and culminating in the authoritarian response to the 2016 coup, the Turkish AKP has become more extreme and authoritarian. It was also used in Iran where liberals and leftists were tricked by
Khomeinism into believing he wanted democracy, but then he quickly moved to suppress them.
Of course, Khomeini believed in a democratic theocracy and considered the people's vote as the basis of the Islamic Republic, although the Guardian Council limits and controls election candidates, but it can be called an Islamic theocratic democracy, which is against liberal democracy and monarchism. Of course, in Iran, the reformist wing of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was an Islamic democracy, is now trending toward Islamic liberalism and the cultural center, and some reformers are also a type of Islamic social democracy, which are in the minority, and all of this is with the theocracy part of the system. Iran is in conflict.
Variants
Daljirism
Daljirism is based on the ideology of the Daljir Party in Somalia and its members such as businessman Kawaii UwU Ali Moalim Mohamed, minister of internal security Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, among others. The party's ideals are based on economic liberation and a safe environment for investments with some regulation, a conservative democracy, rejection of revolutionary movements and Islamic extremists, revitalization of education systems, stability and peace, law and cooperation with women for reconstruction. . of Somalia, religious pluralism and tolerance, cultural liberalism, civil liberties.
Many accuse the party of being anti-Ethiopian because they say the Somali crisis is Ethiopia's fault. Also known for its participation in the media and for female leaders.
Mahathirism
Mahathir Mohamad: In 1981, Mahathir was sworn in as prime minister following the resignation of Hussein Onn.
During Mahathir's first tenure as prime minister, Malaysia experienced a period of rapid modernization and economic growth, and his government initiated widespread industry privatization and a series of bold infrastructure projects. Mahathir was accused of several allegations, which are:
- Dictatorship: He used the controversial Internal Security Act (now repealed) to detain activists, non-mainstream religious figures, and political opponents in Operation Lalang (1987) and later his Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom he fired in 1998. Mahathir's record of curbing civil liberties and his antagonism towards Western interests and economic policy made his relationships with Western nations difficult. He was also responsible for the eventual removal of the Lord President of the Supreme Court, Tun Salleh Abas, triggering the 1988 Constitutional Crisis.
- Anti-Semitism: A strident critic of Israel, Mahathir has been accused of antisemitism since at least as far back as in The Malay Dilemma in which he wrote that "Jews are not merely hook-nosed, but understand money instinctively". Apart from claiming that Jews control the international media, economy and "ruling the world by proxy" and getting "others to fight and die for them", besides disputing the number of Jews killed in The Holocaust.
- Racism: Apart from his controversial statements on the Chinese and the Indian communities in his book The Malay Dilemma despite being of Indian-Muslim descent from Kerala, India, he further said of Najib; "a prime minister who came from 'Bugis pirates' is now leading Malaysia". He remarked, "go back to Sulawesi", which aroused discontent from the Bugis descendants in Malaysia and Indonesia who protested against him, including the royal members of Selangor and Johor.
After quitting
UMNO for the second and last time due to his dissatisfaction with Najib Razak, Mahathir established a new party named
"Malaysian United Indigenous Party" (PPBM) and co-operated with former parties from Pakatan Rakyat to form
Pakatan Harapan, which the coalition won in the 14th General Elections in 2018. Despite being appointed as the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the second time, his views on ethnicity, Islam and Jews, remain unchanged.
In February 2020, developments commonly nicknamed the Sheraton Move (Malay: Langkah Sheraton) involved Parliament members from
Barisan Nasional,
Gabungan Parti Sarawak,
Parti Islam Se-Malaysia and the "Cartel faction" led by Azmin Ali from
Parti Keadilan Rakyat saw the ousting of the elected Pakatan Harapan government and the resignation of Mahathir, after 22 months in power. They were replaced with the
Perikatan Nasional government under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. After being sacked from his own party months later, he later formed a new political party, named "Homeland Fighters' Party" (PEJUANG).

Ra’am
United Arab List, commonly known by its Hebrew acronym Ra'am (Heb.: רע"מ; Thunder) is the political wing of the Israeli Islamist movement
Southern Branch of the Islamic Movement
.
The party was founded in 1996 as, just prior the general elections, unrelated to the formerly existing eponymous Israeli stateline list political party.
Ideology
Ra'am is described as "religious Arab Muslim party".
Ra'am advocates for full-fledged political involvement with the domestic politics of Israel in order to improve the quality of life of
Arabs in Israeli, such as, reducing crime in Arab towns, creating job opportunities, improving housing etc., which is a big departure from the historical Arab parties in Israel who largely focused on the
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
rather than on the domestic situations.
Ra'am supports a
Two-States Solution
with the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with East Jerusalem as its capital city. However, the party doesn't emphasis the need to end Israeli occupation on Palestinian territories. The party is particular popular among Negev Bedouins, because Ra'am alongside the
Islamic Movement advocated and fought for the recognition of the Bedouin villages in the Negev Desert and for later connection of these villages to electricity.
Since the Israeli politician Mansour Abbas became the leader of Ra'am, the party became deeply affiliated with the ideas of the Palestinian-Israeli Islamic leader Abdullah Nimar Darwish, which isn't really surprising since Abbas is Darwish's disciple. Abdullah Darwish essentially became the spiritual leader of Ra'am, by this, Ra'am also became the factual political wing of the Southern Branch of the Islamic Movement. Ra'am was deeply affiliated with Southern Branch before too, but during Abbas's leadership, Ra'am essentially became the its representer.
Both Ra'am and Mansour Abbas hold strong
anti-LGBT opinions, Abbas regularly made homophobic comments.
Ra'am, despite being right leaning was previously affiliated with the
Israeli left, such as the Israeli-based Palestinian left-wing political party,
Balad and the Israeli left-wing to far-left political coalition
Hadash. The latter of whom, mainly formed from the Israeli Marxist-Leninist and far-left political party
Maki
Personality

Relations
Habibi
Pancasila - My Indonesian Muslim brother. Although you were authoritarian in the 20th century.
Southern Front - My counterpart in the south of Syria. We worked together along with
him to take down the Assadist menace and free Syria from it's shackles! I'm really proud we've taken out Assad, but our jobs far from done, the bastards fled to Moscow, our forces are still relatively small and fragmented, and our progress towards creating a new post-assad Syria through integration with the

other, ideologically different opposition factions along with the
AANES seem to be on very shaky ground at best. and I also worry extremists might take power instead of genuinely try to implement me. Oh, and we can't forget we still have
ISIS pockets trying to take advantage of the disorder and
him trying to invade more territory.
Progressive Conservatism - Embrace modernity, embrace Islam.
Bundism - See, Ziotards? Besides Muslims, Jews can also despise Zionism. That's why being an anti-Zionist doesn't automatically mean hating on Jews.
Palestinian Third Way - Palestinians deserve a liberal and democratic state. Why are you secular?
Christian Democracy - Christian al-kitab who also wants to guide liberal democracy with faith. I support freedom of religion except if they're atheistand support your rightsexcept in Syria.
Shubhah
Neoconservatism - Supported me in Afghanistan and Bosnia, but hated me in Iran, and in Pakistan I became his ally in 2004 but I shifted closer to China, also I won't forgive you for what you did in Iraq and Libya, you didn't spread me there, you just ruined these countries, also let's not forget how you are funding
him.
Kemalism - Great how you fought off imperialism and made an Islamic country respected internationally, but why are you ashamed of being Muslim? Latinizing the Turkish alphabet, restricting the hijab, making Hagia Sophia a museum, abolishing the caliphate? Not a fan. Also, stop trying to ban me again and again and aga- Hey, why are there tanks outside? Is there a celebration?
Islamic Theocracy - We are both Muslims, but you're going a little bit too far. It's not the 7th century anymore! Islam needs to adapt to stay relevant! AND STOP TRYING TO INFILTRATE ME!
Liberalism - I support your basic political ideas, but don't like your views on social issues. Also, surely the liberal ideas of pluralism and individual rights give the right to be a devout Muslim, right?
Neo-Ottomanism - I thought that you had proved that open Islam could be compatible with democracy. The Turkish Model looked based at the start. But your coalition with the
MHP and advocacy of outdated Ottoman values does undermine the idea that liberal democracy is compatible with Islamic belief.
Democratic Confederalism - Our relationship is complicated to say the least. You've historically sought to succeed from Syria to form your own nation that does not exactly align with my ideology. But we have worked together in the past to fight
outside tyrants and some of my supporters also formed the SDF with you which since seems to more or less coordinate with the transitional government. (But the SNA is happy
Neo-Ottomanism helped me invade you though.)
AANES - Aside from the Turkish-backed
SNA faction, you've mostly been alright with cooperating with the oppositions transitional government to become apart of a new Syrian state, even if Turkey seems to want to stall such efforts, we're currently transitioning towards integrating our groups into a new Syrian government, although I am not really sure if this means we'll become friends in the long run or not.
Dawronoye - He claims to be a part of the Anti-Assad Opposition, but outside of a few of my Pro-SDF/YPG splinters, he tends to be somewhat of an outsider, he also has problems with
Turkish Allied Rebel Factions and is alright with compromising with
Ba'athism if it means ensuring peace which is kinda cringe betrayal.
Progressivism - Appreciate the support, but religion is still an important thing in our lives.
Zionism - Many of us are sadly starting to recognize you or at the very least have good relations with you, though some of us still hates you. Wait, what do you mean you have me in your country?!
Khomeinism - Fellow Muslim brother from Iran, just don't go any furth- nevermind... Still, your reformist wing is cool.
- Silent, servant of Israel, your rule in Syria will not last.
- First off, I'm not a servant of Israel, we're sometime friend sometime enemies. Second off, You were a servant of the dictator Bashar al-Assad, so shut up and get out of Syria. You don't have any place there, anymore.
- The
Syrian Popular Resistance Force is now established and will kick out your Israeli puppet government.
- We are brothers, there is no need to argue or fight, really. We are like-minded, my Muslim brother.
Secularism - I'm not really a fan of separating religions from politics, but as long as You don't become
this guy, You're fine.
Hadash - Not a fan of communism but we both like Palestinian rights so I will give you a pass.
Al-Julanism - You will turn Syria into an Islamic Democracy right?
Anti-Gaddafi Forces - You guys had the right idea. But you are too secular and well Libya is basically now a huge mess.
Haram
Revolutionary Progressivism - You're neither a liberal, nor even secular, liberalism allows for open religious expression!
Jihadism &
Islamic Fascism - You give Islam a bad name! Though it's nice seeing HTS become more moderate after liberating Syria.
Turkish Idealism - You too, stop trying to corrupt Erdoğan further!
State Atheism - Enemy of Islam, we will defend the faith and destroy you!
Marxism–Leninism - You're banned in Syria, lmao.
Ba'athism - Oh Bashar you liar.. To hell with you and your speech... Freedom is at the door.... Get out, Bashar!
Dengism - Maniac who is killing Uyghurs.
Chen Quanguo - The actual maniac killing Uyghurs.
State Liberalism - WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!?! A WOKE PSYCHOPATH WHO WANTS TO STERILIZE RELIGIONS (ESPECIALLY ISLAM)?!?! OH NO YOU WON'T!!!

However, after the death of Aziz, the councils were soon co-opted and taken over by Islamist opposition forces or destroyed by Assadist forces, with the last of the councils being destroyed during 2016 from the SAA, with its history and influence in the starting years of the Syrian uprising having become largely forgotten since.
