"National Socialism derives from each of the two camps the pure idea that characterizes it, national resolution from bourgeois tradition; vital, creative socialism from the teaching of Marxism."
National Socialism, most commonly known as
Nazism and also known as
Hitlerism, is a
totalitarian,
Ethnoultranationalist,
third positionist and
imperialist ideology which originated in
Germany in the 20th century. Nazism is largely associated with
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, which ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945.
Nazism believes that the
state and, as an extension of it, society, should be based on the ideal of the
Volksgemeinschaft (translated as 'folk, racial, or people's community'), which is a national community of sorts based on a shared ancestry, blood, or culture among a group of people, and that the state should serve the interests of the Volksgemeinschaft whereever possible. To protect the Volksgemeinschaft and to ensure its stability and effective governance, Nazism calls for a strong, often totalitarian state with a singular
leader considered as embodying the state and the Volksgemeinschaft.
Nazism opposes
Communism and class-struggle, instead believing that through the Volksgemeinschaft the interests of the
bourgeoisie and
workers can be harmonized, a form of
corporatism, with some elements of
national syndicalism as well. Outside of this, Nazism has very few economic principles that are independent from the ideal of the Volksgemeinschaft. While it does not refute private property and wishes in many circumstances to keep industry as private as possible, Nazism also believes that ultimately the property of all citizens belongs to the Volksgemeinschaft and that, subsequently, if the interests of the Volksgemeinschaft call for the seizure or nationalization of property, Nazism will do that.
Nazism believes fervently in racial purity and a racial hierarchy, though that is prone often to pragmatic and often contradictory changes.Nazism bellieve in exceptionalism of Germany and strive to create
"Greater Germanic Reich".Groups which the Nazis consider as subhumans often included
Jews,
Slavs,
Romani,
Africans, the disabled, and others. Nazism believes that Jews are behind the supposed degeneration and destruction of the nation and behind ideologies that he opposes such as
"Judeo-Bolshevism",
liberalism,
"Judeo-Capitalism"
globalism and
democracy. It was because of this belief in the racial inferiority of groups like the Jews and Slavs that Nazism, in control of Germany, started World War II and killed anywhere from 11 to 17 million people (including deaths from the genocide of Jews in the Holocaust).
After the end of Nazi rule in Germany, Nazism was reduced to a fringe movement which now manifests itself as
Neo-Nazism, a loosely connected movement with various beliefs, but which commonly manifests as a belief in
White supremacy and hatred towards Jews, blacks, and other groups considered to be inferior.
History
Foundations
Nazism has its roots in various traditions of the German far-right and debatably even parts of the centre and left. Its largest influence comes from the traditions of
Volkism and
German Socialism, which emerged in the 19th century.
The "German Socialists", who co-existed with the Marxists and other socialists in the 19th century, were a group of (initially) reactionary philosophers who distinguished themselves from many other movements by claiming to represent not a single class but human nature and Man himself. These German socialists opposed bourgeois competition and freedom of the press, as well as bourgeois liberty and equality. They proclaimed the German nation to be the model nation and highlighted the German merchant: the petit bourgeoisie, as the 'model man'.
From there, the German Socialist movement began to merge increasingly with the Volkist movement. This ethno-nationalist movement emerged as a reaction to the Prussian state's failure to unify all German-speaking peoples under a single German Reich. The Volkists were romanticists; esoterics who idolized the history of the Holy Roman Empire and mystified the German people's past. The idea of the German Socialists, which aimed to represent Humanity regardless of class, merged with the Volkist cause to unite the German people and eliminate social categories.
Paul de Lagarde and Julius Langbehn emerged as key philosophers of the Volkist movement, both of whom would go on to influence Nazism heavily.
Langbehn strongly opposed rationality, materialism, liberalism, and cosmopolitanism as manifestations of degeneracy, attributing this to the Enlightenment and urbanization. He thus proposed that Germany and its people should move away from the "Slavic, French, Jewish-dominated Prussia" and towards a more Germanic character, a "highly intense inwardness". Likewise, de Lagarde was an aggressive antisemite and anti-Slavist, who advocated against Christianity and for a German colonial empire not overseas but in Europe; particularly in eastern Europe. Lagarde envisioned a German-dominated Europe that "reaches from the Ems to the mouth of the Danube, from the Neman to Trieste, from Metz to about the Bug". This idea of "Drang nach Osten" would heavily influence Nazi ideals of Lebensraum. Lagarde would also influence Nazism through his promotion of a proto-Führer principle, where an emperor endowed with 'the attributes of
Luther and
Frederick Barbarossa' would be both an enlightened legislator and "Führer of the people".
By the late 19th century, the German socialist movement and the Volkist movements had heavily merged into one another. This movement would go on to have a profoundly influential impact on the politics of the Austrian and German Empires in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Volkism would reach its apex during World War I, with what it considered the emergence of the German Volksgemeinschaft; the people's (racial) community, the unity of the German people regardless of class or status behind the German war effort, where all classes would work together and live harmoniously to work for the nation. The idea of the Volksgemeinschaft would strongly influence Nazi ideology, and arguably be the core of its ideology.
Origins
The outbreak of World War I and the instability that resulted from it and the following years led to a complicated and charged political environment, which led to the rise of Volkist and other nationalist groups, many of whom primarily emerged in opposition to the Social Democrats (SPD) and Communists.
In September 1917 during the later stages of the War the German Fatherland Party (DVLP) was formed as a reaction to the Reichstag Peace Resolution, which attempted to reconcile the traditional German "right" with the new militant nationalist right: among the most influential groups were the antisemites, pan-Germans and Volkists, all of whom would go on later to found various political parties to succeed the DVLP when it dissolved following the German revolution in 1918. Among the members of these groups was Anton Drexler, a railway worker from Munich. Drexler had joined the DVLP when it was new in 1917, and supported the party through the creation of various groups, culminating with the founding of the German Workers' Party (DAP) together with his colleagues Karl Harrer, Dietrich Eckart, and Gottfried Feder. From the beginning, the DAP had little support outside of the small circle Drexler had created for himself during the war: meetings and speeches given often triggered little, if any, enthusiasm and were often drowned out by the background noise in the restaurants their meetings were held in.
This would be changed decisively with Adolf Hitler's introduction to and membership in the DAP. At the time, Hitler had been working as an agent of the Propaganda Department of the Reichswehr and acted as an informant for the government in meetings of various political parties founded in Munich, including the DAP. Hitler became prominent in the party after he passionately spoke out against the proposed secession of Bavaria from Germany, and after recognizing his oratory skills, Drexler invited Hitler to join the DAP.
Hitler's insistence that the DAP shift itself towards a 'party of the masses' rather than a small, almost 'secret society', combined with his oratory skills, led to the rapid growth not only of his popularity but of the DAP as well. In his first-ever official public speech for the party, he drew a crowd of 111. Impressed by his results, he was made the party's head of propaganda. Through his influence and popularity, he was able to sideline Drexler and other party members. As he was responsible for organizing party events and managing the party's public relations, he was able to influence party policy significantly. His position led him to become, de facto, one of the leaders of the party, and his influence continued to grow into 1920.
Consolidation & Rise To Power
The early years of the Nazi Party were marked by internal conflict and the rise of Adolf Hitler from de facto leader to undisputed hegemon of the entire party apparatus. The Munich branch of the party demanded that the Nazis merge with their rivals, the German Socialist Party. In response, Hitler threatened to leave the party unless this demand was withdrawn, and he would replace Drexler as Chairman. Hitler consequently consolidated power throughout the rest of the 1920s, until he became the rigid head of a heavily centralized, top-down movement where his word was above any constitution or written law within the party.
Wishing to emulate the success of the Italian Fascists in their March on Rome, Hitler led the Nazi Party on a march on Munich in an attempt to overthrow the Bavarian government and, consequently, inspire the Reichswehr to mutiny against the German government. They did not. Consequently, Hitler was thrown in jail, though his sentence was short. The Nazi Party was for a brief moment banned, and the brief fragmentation this caused the movement resulted in the left wing of the movement to rise to prominence. After Hitler's release from prison and the re-legalization of the Nazi Party, Hitler moved his attention towards reconsolidating all power in the party around himself over attempting to increase the party's electorability; consequentially in the first election after Hitler's release, the party received a little over 900,000 votes, in comparison with their nearly 2 million votes in the previous election in May.
After Hitler consolidated power around himself, he turned his attention to utilizing the political empire that the Strasser brothers had established for him. This came to a head after the Great Depression and the subsequent financial crisis in Germany, which the Nazis gleefully took advantage of to sway middle-class businessmen and other people affected by the crisis to their party. Such was the electoral success that the Nazi Party went from a fringe party with 12 members in the Reichstag to the second-largest party in the Reichstag. Political successes would continue into 1932 (though the Nazis did lose a portion of their support base in the November 1932 elections), with the Nazis becoming the largest party in the Reichstag. Hitler's popularity led him to run for German President against Paul von Hindenburg. Although he lost the election, he garnered over 13 million votes and won in various constituencies.
At the same time, the Nazi party and Communist party grew in popularity and power, at the expense of the parties of the center. By late 1932, the two parties had become so dominant that it was impossible to form a majority government without their support. With the failure of the Schleicher chancellorship, Hindenburg appointed Hitler as Chancellor in 1933.
Hitler seized the opportunity presented by the Reichstag Fire to blame his political opponents, such as the Communist Party. Through alliance with various nationalist and conservative movements in the Reichstag, the Nazis rallied for the banning of the Communist Party a day after the March 1933 elections. Later that month, Hitler, or more accurately, the cabinet of the Chancellor, gained the power to make and enforce laws without the permission or involvement of either the Reichstag or the President. As the cabinet in question was already composed mostly, if not entirely, out of his followers who adhered to the
Führerprinzip, or leader principle, the act de facto gave nearly, but not all, power in Germany to Hitler. The Enabling Act was passed and supported by all political parties in the Reichstag. The only parties that voted against the act were the Social Democratic Party and the Communist Party.
Hitler would attain hegemonic control over the states of Germany through mandating the dissolution of the parliaments of all German states, except Prussia, which they already controlled. The new provisions resulted in the Nazis and their coalition partners receiving a working majority in all state parliaments. This was followed by further centralization of power with the appointment of a Reichsstathalter, who held near-complete control over state government, by the President, on the advice of the Chancellor. As these would near exclusively be coalition partners of the NSDAP, or NSDAP members, Hitler retained near absolute control over the state governments of Germany. In June 1933, Hitler banned his largest opposition group: the SPD. By July, the various other political parties represented in the Reichstag, including even the NSDAP's coalition partners, all dissolved themselves out of fear of the consequences if they did not. The Nazis, on 14 July, banned all other political parties save for the Nazi Party.
Hitler's next move was to unify the Nazi Party with the state, establishing the Nazi Party as a public corporation of the German government and an official organ of the government. All government agencies fell under the control of the Nazi Party. The states of Germany would later de facto be dissolved, with their governing bodies superseded by the Gaue and their Gauleiters. In 1934, with the death of Hindenburg, Hitler combined the offices of President and Chancellor, proclaiming himself the "Führer and Chancellor of the German Reich".
Dictatorship and Interwar
Hitler was threatened by the left wing of the Nazi movement, mainly in the Sturmabteilung led by Ernst Rohm, who supported the SA becoming a "people's army" that would merge with the Reichswehr to bypass the restrictions made on Germany's army. This was firmly opposed by the German bourgeoisie and the Reichswehr, which Hitler relied on for support. Consequently, Hitler took the opportunity to purge his opponents from both the party and outside it, killing them or sending them into exile. This ended any chance of any real organized political opposition to Hitler.
Hitler's economic policy was marked both by rapid privatizations of former state-owned companies and enterprises and a gradual shifting of the economy towards armament and a preparation for war, as Hitler saw it inevitable with his beliefs of "Lebensraum", or living space, that Germany would go to war with the rest of Europe. Hitler's Nazi Germany, through extreme misinformation and propaganda, propped up the image of a prosperous, stable, and strong Germany in contrast to the various other countries of Europe, who were still reeling from the effects of the great depression. In reality, Hitler's budget was funded by borrowed time and money; quite literally. The Nazi's affinity for deficit spending (most of that going to the military) was such that on several occasions the German treasury was on the verge of bankruptcy, only saved either by taking out more loans from front companies or by looting the treasuries of the states Germany conquered. Germany was able to largely ignore its debt obligations due to its international and economic isolation from the world, a policy actively pursued by Hitler, which had drastic effects on Germany's war capabilities. In 1935, Hitler, in violation of the Versailles treaty, began conscription for the Reichswehr (soon reconstituted as the Wehrmacht) and re-established an air force for the military. Empowered by the lack of a strong response to Germany's repeated violations of the Versailles treaty, Hitler demilitarized the Rhineland and set his eyes on territorial expansion. In Austria, his home country, Hitler organized a political coup in 1938 that promptly resulted in the occupation of the country and its annexation. A referendum was held confirming the annexation. While its results are certainly to be called into question and were likely falsified, it is concluded that most Austrians heavily supported unification with Germany. Under the guise of "self-determination", which Hitler proclaimed had been explicitly denied for the German people, Hitler justified his annexation of Austria and later the German-speaking Sudetenland, a region of Czechoslovakia. Hitler lost all trust, as well as potential for negotiation and cooperation with the powers of the West, with his de facto annexation of Czechia and his partition of Czechoslovakia between the newly founded puppet state of Slovakia and Germany's new ally in Hungary.
World War 2 & Aftermath
Hitler's ideal for Germany was a continent-spanning empire stretching from Metz in the west to Astrakhan in the east; consequently, this would bring Hitler and Germany in conflict with Poland. Hitler demanded in 1939 that Poland cede the "Polish corridor", except Gdynia, to Germany, whilst Germany would annex Danzig. In return, Germany would promise to protect Poland's access to the sea and its only port. Poland rejected the offer, never being allowed to see its provisions. Consequently, with the help of several staged incidents made by the Nazi government, Germany declared war on Poland and invaded. To prevent any conflicts with the Soviets, the Nazis signed a non-aggression pact with the Soviets, which defined "spheres of influence", most notably the Soviets' in the Baltic and much of Eastern Europe. The "Allies", or France and Britain, declared war on Germany soon after. Stalin and the Soviet Union provided Hitler and Germany with much-needed resources for their war machine. These resources were used in the invasions of Scandinavia and the Low Countries, which ultimately led to France's capitulation. Hitler's invasions, as well as alliances with countries such as Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, effectively meant that nearly the entire European continent fell under German influence, with a tiny exception. Germany's military successes began to slow down as its reserves of resources dwindled, and it became increasingly reliant on the Soviet Union, which was almost entirely dependent on Germany for the resources of its conquests. As Germany was largely incapable of properly extracting the resources of their newly conquered territories due to a reasonable lack of enthusiasm of slaves for extracting resources, and because it utterly destroyed all infrastructure that would go into extracting these resources, the ability for Germany to independently make its resources necessary for war was increasingly beginning to be threatened. To prevent the Soviets from taking advantage of this weakness, Hitler, motivated by the Soviets' supposed weakness in the face of Finland, invaded the Soviet Union to marked success, reaching as far as to encircle Leningrad and allowing his troops to see the Kremlin in the distance. Germany was not prepared for a long war, and since it was draining the resources the Soviets had provided, Germany's successes quickly turned against it. Around this time, Hitler and the Nazis began the "final solution" of genociding the entire Jewish population in Europe, or at least where they could reach. This resulted in the near annihilation of the Jewish population of Europe by 1945, as well as the extinction of several languages, dialects, and other cultures targeted by the Nazis. By July 1944, with the Allies establishing a strong foothold in Southern Italy and the Allies launching a million-strong invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France, Nazi Germany and its allies found themselves cornered on every front. The situation became so desperate that army officers and elements of the Wehrmacht attempted to overthrow Hitler and sue for peace with the Allies, with unrealistic demands. The coup was exposed and went nowhere, but it proved that Hitler's once near-unanimous support was slipping and that the god-like conception of himself that he had promoted was slipping away. The army itself was refusing to give the Nazi salute, and control and power of the army were slipping away from Hitler. By 1945, any chance of a "Final Victory" as espoused by the Nazis was fiction. Millions of Germans, with the advance of the Soviet Army closer to German territory, fled westward out of fears of reprisals exacerbated by German propaganda. Hitler lost the confidence of both his people and even his most loyal supporters, with his wartime measures fundamentally turning from an attempt to delay the inevitable to turning Germany into a massive meat grinder that would take out as many "Judeo-Capitalists" and "Judeo-Bolshevists" as possible. By his last birthday, the Allies and Soviets had almost entirely encircled Germany and were directly threatening Berlin, where Hitler was hiding. Encouraged by the execution and treatment of Mussolini by the Italian people, Hitler was convinced that he could not suffer the same humiliating fate, and consequently shot himself on 30 April 1945. With him, the German government and war effort fundamentally fell apart; as his successor, Goebbels, also shot himself the day after, and his successors accepted peace with the Allies. The effects were not just catastrophic for Germany, but for much of Europe as well. Germany faced casualties from 6.9 million to 7.4 million, with an additional 7.3 million wounded, out of a pre-war population of 69.3 million. After the occupation of Germany, the allies went on an extensive de-Nazification program to cleanse Germany of the extensive Nazification the country had undergone throughout the 12 years of Nazi dictatorship. The revelation of the vast crimes against humanity, as well as the genocide the Nazis supported and conducted, discredited Nazism immediately; these revelations crushed any chances it had for sympathy.
Neo-Nazism

After the dismantling and banning of Nazi groups across Europe, the movement became a fringe minority which manifested itself as
"Neo-Nazism". Neo-Nazi groups have had historical and recent successes throughout Europe; however, they remain firmly in the fringe. They seek to revive and resurrect Nazism after World War II to be adapted, however, they see fit, for modern purposes. Neo-Nazism seeks to use its ideology to promote hatred and
white supremacy, attacks on
racial,
ethnic,
religious,
gender and sexual minorities
, and in some cases attempt to establish a fascist state.
International journalist Yoichiro Kawai has divided neo-nazis into two groups: those that support Nazi Germany and worship Adolf Hitler in the narrow sense, and those that engage in extremist activities, including armed struggle, with a focus on "claims that are still applicable to modern society", such as xenophobia and ethnic purity. He claims that neo-nazis in the broad sense are gaining influence, primarily among young people.
Comparisons
Relationship to Italian Fascism
Nazism's relationship to
Italian fascism is often questioned and sometimes outright disputed. The actual core influence of Mussolini's fascism on Nazism is minimal, aside from aesthetics. Many of Nazism's core principles - including the
Führerprinzip, Volksgemeinschaft and class collaborationism - find their roots in the Völkisch movement, rather than Italian fascism.
The actions and style of the Italian fascists indeed did have a profound influence on Hitler and the Nazi Party. When Benito Mussolini's National Fascist Party came to power as a result of the March on Rome, Hitler and the Nazi Party began planning a coup similar to it less than a month later. Many of the Italian fascist aesthetics, including the Roman salute and the black-shirted uniforms, would be an inspiration of the Nazis. The planned "coup", which would go on to be known as the "Beer Hall Putsch", would fail, persuading Hitler to pursue a mostly "legal" path to power.
However, Nazism and Italian fascism has core philosophical differences, make for a lack of considering Nazism, that put them at odds with one another. While both were racialist and racist in nature, Nazism emphasized race and ethnicity (proclaiming this through the ideal of the Volksgemeinschaft), while Italian fascism simply emphasized the nation, which could include other races and ethnicities. To the Nazis, the state was subordinate to the purity of the Volk, and could cease to exist so long as the Volk is pure, whereas the Italian fascists believed that state was an all-encompassing entity that ultimately generates the nation and man's liberty as a unity of mind, and that the state should not serve any specific ethnic groups. Despite these differences, Nazism is an extreme form of fascism rooted in Germanic supremacy, social Darwinism, eugenics, and the concept of Volksgemeinschaft.
Many Fascists also believed in artistic modernism and futurism, where Hitler in Germany denounced them as "decadent" and set out entire campaigns to purge it and the people who produced such art. However, the Nazis promoted a form of “rooted modernism” when it came to the construction of monumental architecture. Moreover, Hitler fully endorsed the efforts of the Party’s modernizing faction to lobby for the erection of monumental buildings in in a classicizing style and for ambitious projects of urban renewal so as to ensure a steady production of buildings which once more inspired a sense, not of tradition or the past, but of a national ‘eternity’ and ‘immortality’ projected into a mythic, millennial future. For Speer and his admirers, at least in civic space, Germany’s total rebirth as nation, race, and culture was best symbolized, not in homely vernacular buildings set in rural idylls, but in vast edifices of stone standing out against the city skyline, silently conjuring up the continuity between Germany’s imminent rebirth and the last great cultural flowering of the Aryan race in classical Greece and Rome. [42]
These ideological differences would cause initial aggression and distrust between Hitler and Mussolini when Hitler rose to power in Germany, and before Italy's involvement in WW2, set out multiple plans to counter the influence of Nazi Germany, which also dates back to Mussolini's hatred of Germany from WW1-era Italian nationalism. Because of this, Italy supported the Austrofascist government of
Engelbert Dollfuss to contain Nazi aggression. In response, the Nazis would assassinate Dollfuss, causing great strain and tension between Germany and Italy. Italy would make several attempts throughout the early 1930s to create a political alliance with the western nations of Europe to oppose Nazi Germany, though all of these failed.
After the Italian Invasion of Ethiopia, Italy became internationally isolated and embargoed. As a result, Italy shifted its geopolitical attention away from Britain and France and instead towards Germany. Germany and Italy, thus, allied. Internal and ideological tensions were still intact, but public relations were smoothed out to aid strategic coordination. After this, Italy would emerge as a key ally of the Nazis in World War II.

British Nazism/Leeseism
British Nazism/Leeseism is based on the thoughts of British political figure Arnold Leese.
He was born at Lytham St Annes, Lancashire,
England,
United Kingdom on November 16th 1878 while his father named Spencer Leese was a manufacturer that became an artist while his nephew named Sir Joseph Francis Leese was a judge that became a politician for the
Liberal Party but then become a first-class cricketer and his second cousin named Sir Oliver Leese was a
Lieutenant-General of the "British Army" since 1914.
Arnold Leese was educated at Giggleswick School near Settle. At the same time, his childhood was characterised by loneliness because he was the only child in the family. Still, then in 1894, his father named Spencer Leese died so the family are in financial difficulties so Leese force to leave boarding school and then years later he attended the
Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons thanks to the financial help of his
grandfather.
In 1903, Arnold Leese graduated from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, so he worked as an equine clinician in London. Still, then in 1907, he accepted a post at the Civil Veterinary Department in the
British Raj aka India in which he became an expert on camels while working alongside with the
North-West Frontier but then in 1909, he published
several articles on this animal along with its maladies so he was first appeared in the "Journal of Tropical Veterinary Science" while in 1910, a camel parasite called Thelazia leesei was named after him by Louis-Joseph Alcide Railliet and then in 1913, he was transferred to
Italian Somaliland to work for the East Africa Government's veterinary department where he was posted at the outbreak of World War One (1914-1918).
During World War I, Arnold Leese was commissioned in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps but then served as a camel purchase officer to the Remount Commission with the Somaliland Camel Corps. While in France on the Western Front, he was a veterinary officer for the Advanced Horse Transport Depot. During the war, he was married to May Winifred King, who is the daughter of a former
landlord. After the war, Leese returned to the United Kingdom to be settled in Stamford as a practising vet until retirement in June 1928.
In the early 1920s, Arnold Leese became interested in
Italian Fascism while developed a fascination for
Benito Mussolini but then in April 1923, he wrote a short pamphlet called "Fascism for Old England" that praised Mussolini while highlighting the significance of
Fascism for Britain and then Leese joined the
"British Fascists" lead by Rotha Lintorn-Orman shortly after it's creation while in March 1924, he established his branch which soon gained 80 members. Still, Leese despised, however, the group's policies for allowing former
Socialists or
Jews in the party, contending that it was "honeycombed" with
Communist infiltrators.
Arnold Leese further explains that the "British Fascists" did not understand Fascism at all. At the same time, he revolted against
Democracy for a return to
Statesmanship, but also as an animal lover, he claimed that the style of animal slaughter was practised in Judaism, which influenced his
Anti-Semitism. Then he joined an international think tank that was based in Switzerland called the "Centre International d'Études sur le Fascisme/International Centre for the Study of Fascism" (CINEF), whose aim was the promotion of Fascism. At the same time, he served as its British correspondent.
Arnold Lesse has become close to one of his neighbours such as the economist
Arthur Kitson who is a member of
"The Britons" lead by Henry Hamilton Beamish as an
Anti-Jewish pioneer while Kitson persuaded Leese that control of money was the key to power while also the Jewish people ultimately controlled the money and then Kitson supplied him with a copy of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion book in which Leese explains the little book was true while he could not put it down until he had finished reading it but then the two men became friends until Kitson died at 1937.
Arnold Lesse was elected councillor to the Stamford Town Council along with Harry Simpson, becoming the first elected Fascist councillors in the United Kingdom, but the "British Fascists" had generally chosen not to intervene in the despised democratic system. At the same time, his contempt for Democracy seems to have been paradoxically reinforced by the election. Hence, he says why he got voted by many people, and the reason for this is that he had cured their pigs or pets without the slightest idea about what the ideology stood for.
In 1925, Arnold Lesse along with Harry Simpson joined a splinter group called the "National Fascisti" lead by Henry Rippon-Seymour because Lesse was generally unsatisfied with the policies of the "British Fascists" dismissing the group as
Conservatism with knobs on but then In 1927, he published a piece of literature called "A Treatise on the One-Humped Camel in Health and in Disease" which remain a standard work in the British Raj later
India for 50 years and in May 1927, he founded a splinter group called the "Fascist League" from the remnants of the "National Fascisti" but then in October 1927, he stepped down as a councillor after having served a single term along with retiring from his job as a Veterinarian since June 1928.
In 1929, Arnold Lesse founded a political party called the "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) while it was initially modelled more along the lines of Italian Fascism but under the influence of Henry Hamilton Beamish who served as vice-president began to focus on Anti-Semitism but then a
blackshirted paramilitary arm called the "Fascist Legions" was created while it was lead by Leslie H. Sherrard & then Erskine Tulloch and the political party initially advocated policies such as
Corporatism, monetary reform and the removal of citizenship from Jewish people while it has 150 to 500 members.
The "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) including the extensive publishing interests were funded out of Arnold Leese's own pocket but then in April 27th 1932, Leese addressed the
"New Party" meeting lead by
Oswald Mosley on the theme of "The Blindness of British Politics under the Jew Money-Power" that was been chaired and then Oswald Mosley along with Robert Forgan approached to Leese for suggesting that the "Imperial Fascist League" should be merge into the "British Union of Fascists" but the offer was declined but then Leese soon attacked Mosley for his failure to deal with the "Jewish question" even dub the (BUF) into the "British Jewnion of Fascists" or
"Kosher Fascists" because of specific differences between the two political parties such the "Imperial Fascist League" that held a
biological view of Anti-Semitism as a belief that Jewish people were inherently inferior as a race but in contrast to the "British Union of Fascists" whose eventual adoption of Anti-Semitism was framed in ideas about Jewish people that supposed undue influence at the top echelons of society.
The "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) soon shifted away from Italian Fascism after Arnold Leese visited to
Nazi Germany to met with
Julius Streicher but then its new programme wanted a
'Racial Fascist Corporate State' stressed in the supremacy of the Aryan race as the creator of civilisation with culture along with remodelled newspaper called "The Fascist" with the lines of "Der Stürmer" newspaper and the political party enjoyed a higher profile than its membership might suggest but in a large part due to the funding that it received from Nazi Germany paid through the English correspondent for the "Völkischer Beobachter" newspaper by Dr. Hans Wilhelm Thost.
In 1933, the "British Union of Fascists" (BUF), led by Oswald Mosley, decided to act against the renegade "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) with a paramilitary unit called Stewards, attacking several meetings. Still, then the campaign culminated in an incident in Great Portland Street in London with 50 Stewards disguised as Communists invaded the stage to attack Arnold Leese before they caused considerable damage to the hall in an attempt to force a large repair bill onto him even the (BUF) passed fabricated evidence of an (IFL) plot to attack its headquarters to the home office and then in July 1935, Lesse along with printer Walter Whitehead published a newspaper issue of "The Fascist" entitled "Jewish Ritual Murder" which later appeared as a pamphlet by proposing the mass genocide of Jewish people by the use of gas chambers that earned him a prison sentence in 1936.
Arnold Lesse, along with Walter Whitehead, was charged with six counts related to two articles published that led to a fine for causing public mischief. However, Lesse was jailed for six months for being convicted of this offense. Still, after his release, he edited a pamphlet entitled "My Irrelevant Defence" as a lengthy work in defence of his earlier claim that Jewish passover celebrations had included the sacrifice of
Christian children. Still, he also used the materials distributed by the "Welt-Dienst" news service headed by Ulrich Fleischhauer while he wrote for it. Then the "Imperial Fascist League" denounced Benito Mussolini as a pro-Semite while claiming that Jews had organised the Second Italo-Ethiopian War (1935-1937).
The "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) was linked to the "Nordic League" led by Captain Archibald Maule Ramsay. Commander E. H. Cole, a staunch advocate of the book "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," served as chancellor of the group and was a leading member of the IFL. Still, in 1939, the influence of the "Imperial Fascist League" (IFL) was diminished. Still, the rivalry had cooled to the point that the "British Union of Fascists" bookshop in Canterbury was prepared to stock (IFL) pamphlets and then when World War Two (1939-1945) has started Arnold Lesse declared loyalty to
King George VI while renaming the group into the "Angles Circle" but that stance was rejected by some Pro-German members such as Tony Gittens, Harold Lockwood & Bertie Mills.
In 1940, Arnold Leese was one of the last men of the Fascist movement to be interned in the United Kingdom during World War Two under Defence Regulation 18B. Still, he claimed that his primary loyalty was to Britain but had been somewhat critical of
Adolf Hitler while in June 1940, he reacted with bitter anger when an internment order was issued for him and before November 9th 1940, he set up a series of hideouts from which he published several pamphlets that were critical of the war while he was evaded capture until the end even he is enraged by what he saw as a slur on his
Patriotism.
Arnold Leese violently resisted arrest but then smashed up his holding cell as he saw the war as a "Jew's War" but also he strongly repudiated the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact while castigated Nazi Germany for the invasion of
Norway and then Leese labelled his political creed "Racial Fascism" because he disliked the term "National Socialism" which was used by the Nazi Germany during the war although he along with other members of the "Imperial Fascist League" supported Nazi Anti-Semitism.
In 1944, Arnold Leese was released from detention due to his health following a major operation. Still, then after World War Two, he offered to testify at
William Joyce's trial along with preparing to give evidence on the Jewish issue at Nuremberg in defence of the German National Socialists while described the Nuremberg Trials as a Jewish &
Masonic affair like a procedure in the United Kingdom the Defence Regulation 18B as an act of revenge and then Leese set up his own "Jewish Information Bureau" for a reason.
Arnold Leese began publishing his journal called the "Gothic Ripples," which was primarily concerned with attacking the Jewish people. At the same time, he believed that there were 2.5 million Jews in the United Kingdom, but in reality, there were only 410,000 Jews. Still, also the journal contained a strongly
Anti-Black bent with a regular column entitled "REDACTED Notes," appearing, and then in 1947, Leese returned to prison with a one-year sentence along with seven other former members of the "Imperial Fascist League" for helping escaped German Waffen SS prisoners of war.
In 1948, Arnold Lesse formed the "National Workers Movement" while in December 1950 he stood trial for criminal libel on
Harold Scott who is commissioner of the Metropolitan Police but was acquitted but then in 1951, Lesse essentially retired from politics because of the rival leaders of the movement such as Tony Gittens & Anthony Baron. Then he published his autobiography called Out of Step: Events in the Two Lives of an Anti-Jewish Camel Doctor.
Arnold Lesse acted as mentor to
Colin Jordan & John Tyndall, and then he died in London, England, on January 18th, 1956.
Foundations and Beliefs
Tenets
(main principles and assumptions the ideology holds)
Racial views
The racial views of Nazism are less a hierarchy and more of an ever-changing fluid mess of a one-story house. It's important to stress that Nazism used the term "race" (Rasse) sparingly, and instead preferred to use the term volk which effectively was used in replacement of the term "race"- but which did not exactly correlate to our modern understanding of race. Nazism, indeed, did believe in the existence of different races: but it did not believe in superficial terms like the "white race" or "yellow race". Rather, its concept of race was based upon that of ancestry: blood, ethnicity.
The "Aryan Race"
The Nazis, with a majority of Europe at the time, believed (correctly) that most of the peoples of Europe- that is the Indo-European speaking peoples of Europe, belonged to a grouping of peoples we would now know as Indo-European, at the time of course referred to as "Aryan".
Their belief was that the Aryan race (Arier Rasse)- or "Indo-Germanics", had originated out of what is now Northern Europe, conquering the pre-European peoples there before going on to spread into Anatolia, Iran, India, Central Asia, all the way into modern day Xinjiang. They thought that as the Aryan race had conquered farther from their homeland of Northern Europe, the more non-Aryans they intermingled with and thus the less "pure" their blood was. The Nordic race, a sub-race of the Aryan race, was considered by the Nazis to be the most racially pure Aryans; that is the race which carried on their appearance, culture and genetics most closely.
The Nazis did not group the Aryan peoples based on "how Aryan" they were, however. While it did acknowledge that the Nordic peoples were the most racially pure form of Aryan, it did not believe that they were inherently "better" or superior to the rest of the Aryans for that. The "Nazi racial hierarchy"- that is of the chart where Nords and Germanic peoples are at the top, Latins in the middle and etc. farther down is not a chart of superiority, but rather a chart highlighting how racially pure they are.
The racial hierarchy
If we are to ever understand Nazism's racial views, at least in the concept of why it compares everything to "Aryans", let us first examine the word "Aryan".
"Aryan" (from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Áryas) has several reconstructed origins. It seems most likely however that the root of the word comes from the Indo-European "h₂er-", which literally means "to fit", but which is translated in this context usually as "fitting, proper"- that is 'noble'. Hence, the word "Aryan" can be understood as meaning 'noble one'.
Now, we must examine the word "Herrenvolk". Normally, this is translated as "master race; master people". In the context of which the Nazis categorized the Aryan race as the "Herrenvolk" however, we find that the common translation of "Herr" as 'master' does not fit in this situation.
While Herr indeed can be translated as master, it is almost always used in the concept of 'gentleman'- a title of respect equivalent again to 'noble'.
Hence, when Nazism speaks of the "Aryan race" being the "herrenvolk", they were not saying that they were the 'master race', but rather a "gentlemanly race". In other words, calling the 'noble race' noble. The floor is floor.
In contrast, we find that the common translation of "Untermensch" as literally meaning "subhuman" also makes little sense if we understand what it is contrasting to.
The term "Untermensch" was previously used to refer not to racially inferior or genetically inferior people but rather to a morally or culturally inferior person. A gambler as an example would be considered morally inferior and thus "untermenschen".
In Nietzschean philosophy, the term "Untermensch" is in contrast to "Übermensch". Nietzsche's description of the "Übermensch" was that of a person who had transcended the 'otherworldliness' of Christian values- that is values given by God, and instead that of which manifested the 'grounded, human ideal'. In other words- they were supposed to be a gentlemanly (noble) people. Such is confirmed with the 'last man'- the antithesis of the "Übermensch". The last man is described as tired of life, takes no risks, and seeks only comfort and security. If the Übermensch is the antithesis of this, then we can find that "Übermensch" hence means somebody who is appreciative or even loves the world and life, is willing to take risks, and rejects passive comfort and routine (security).
Henceforth, we find in a sense that the term "Übermenschen" is a cognate with the term "Herrenvolk"- both mean 'gentlemanly people'- 'noble people'. In contrast we therefore find that the term 'untermenschen' refers to a culturally or morally inferior person.
This description is further backed up by Dr. Walter Gross, the head of the Office of Racial Policy of the NSDAP. In a letter sent to Dr. Gross in response to another by Iraqi prime minister Rashid Ali Al-Gaylani, Dr. Gross had this to say.
"The Germans do not fight the Jews because they are Semitic or because they come from the East, but for their character, egoism and their hostility to society."
Nazi racial hierarchy, therefore, was based on the concept of gentlemanliness- of nobleness. It was not rooted in the belief of some races being inherently 'superior' physically or genetically (though the Nazis despised racial mixing), but rather in the concept of moral supremacy. The Jews were lambasted by the Nazis as being 'untermenschen' because of their supposed synonymity with the 'Untermenschen'. They were thought to be greedy, lazy, egoistic and self-serving and desired only passive comfort and security. Likewise, this is why there were 'noble Jews'- treated the same as 'Aryans'. Nazism ranked races therefore on their character: at least their perceived character. This hence is why Nazi racial hierarchies appear to be so self-contradicting: because nothing about the racial hierarchy was set in stone: it was always ever-changing with new perceptions of the supposed characteristics of races.
Völkisch equality
Völkisch equality is a concept within Nazism and a legal practice within Nazi Germany and its controlled territories during World War II, which ascribed racial equality of opportunity, equality before the law, and full legal rights to people of German blood or related blood, but deliberately excluded people outside this definition, who were regarded as inferior. Nazism rejected the concept of the universal equality of human beings. Only those who qualified as Aryans were allowed full legal rights, including equality before the law. This type of equality was not an equality of people as holders of human rights but an equality of people as members of a master race, and thus individuals' interests were subordinate to the collective interest of the Volksgemeinschaft. The Nazis were opposed to the conventional universal conception of equality. The Nazis advocated a welfare state for German citizens (able-bodied Germans of Aryan racial descent) as a means to eliminate social barriers between the German people. The Nazis provided equal access to education for talented children of workers and peasants. Hitler claimed that equality of opportunity for all racially sound German males was the meaning of the "socialism" of National Socialism.
Genocide
It is widely known that Nazism prefers to solve its problems by gassing and burning them. Human beings are no exception. Anyone considered an “Untermensch” (subhuman in German) will be thrown into a concentration/death camp by Nazism if he sees them. One way to tell if someone you know is considered an Untermensch is if Nazism puts three sets of parenthesis "((()))" around his/her name or pronouns. Nazism also uses the triple parenthesis to refer to entire groups he doesn’t like, mainly
Jews. In practice, Nazism see genocide as a last resort, hence the term "Final Solution", and prefer to "humanely" deport Untermensch or use them as slave labor.
Social Darwinism
The argument that Nazi ideology was strongly influenced by
Social Darwinist ideas is often found in historical and social science literature. For example, the philosopher and historian Hannah Arendt analyzed the historical development from a politically indifferent scientific Darwinism via social Darwinist ethics to racist ideology. Nazism views Darwinian evolution as justification for the belief in the supposed superiority of the Aryan race. Nazi Germany's justification for its aggression was regularly promoted in Nazi propaganda films depicting scenes such as beetles fighting in a lab setting to demonstrate the principles of "survival of the fittest" as depicted in Alles Leben ist Kampf (English translation: All Life is Struggle).
To Nazism, people with inherited disorders are considered to be “useless eaters” and were killed/sent to camps on sight as they were regarded as "life unworthy of life" (German: Lebensunwertes Leben). Mental disabilities fare mildly better than physical disabilities depending on the severity of the disorder, but it usually ends up the same way even in minor cases.
During Nazi Germany's early years, an infamous practice was promising treatment and care for cripples in state-owned hospitals, then either coercing or convincing their families to give up their disabled family member(s), only for the Nazis to euthanize them in their "hospitals".
Nationalism and Dictatorship

Nazism is very, well, nationalist; the Fatherland comes first. Always. In Nazism, the individual is nothing but a servant to the nation-state. Current leaders of Nazism, notably Adolf Hitler, are referred to as the “Führer” ("Leader" in German). As a leadership-based system, the Führer has nearly unlimited power over their subordinates, although they do tend to have ruling councils and bureaucracy based on WWII-era observations. Using this extreme nationalism, citizens under Nazism will often fight to the death to protect their land and leader. Acording to Götz Haydar Aly Nazis promoted the ideal of a social order in which all Germans of “pure aryan blood” were freed from traditional class barriers and had an opportunity to reach any level of success by serving the fatherland. Nazis could thus have viewed themselves as a form of continuation of Bismarck's paternalist legacy, viewed by them as only the beginning for all “real” Germans to obtain high quality of life. In some regards a majority of German families could maintain good standards of living even under bombardment of the Allies thanks to the spoils of war. Every country occupied by German army had to contribute in the interests of German people, and in 5 years Nazis took from various nations of Europe goods worth 2 trillion of dollars. Each time, Nazis first nationalized Jewish property only to privatize it away to German people or other deemed worthy. As estimated by Aly, robbery of resources in occupied states allowed most of German people to have more comfort than civil population in Great Britain.
Religion
Nazism's religious beliefs are not entirely set in stone; there were many a
Christian and even
Muslim with the
Pagan mixed in there, but it is undeniable that Nazism was a deeply religious movement which opposed all forms of atheism and antitheism. Most of the leading figures of Nazism, particularly
Hitler and
Goebbels, frequently made references to "the Lord", "providence", and "God" in their writings and speeches. Hitler himself stated that one of the reasons why he was opposed to
Bolshevism was because he believed it preached "godlessness".
Nazism as a religion
It can be argued that Nazism considers itself to be a religion, such as in the case of Goebbels writing on October 16, 1928 when he proclaimed that "National Socialism is a religion".
What does Christianity mean today? National Socialism is a religion. All we lack is a religious genius capable of uprooting outmoded religious practices and putting new ones in their place. We lack traditions and ritual. One day soon National Socialism will be the religion of all Germans. My Party is my church, and I believe I serve the Lord best if I do his will, and liberate my oppressed people from the fetters of slavery. That is my gospel.
As for the actual religious beliefs of the so-called "National Socialist religion", the consensus seems to be that it is a panentheistic religion, where the universe and God are understood to be one and the same. This connection between God and nature and the belief that God is nature (as in, directly) is among the many reasons why Nazism supported
deep ecology and other such environmentalist movements.
Nazism can also be characterized as an
autotheistic religion due to the fact that Nazism reveres the Fuhrer, believing in him as an ideal, and attributing divine qualities to him. This contributed to the active cultivation of the cult of Hitler's personality in the Third Reich.
Nazism was never exactly hostile to Christianity, but its belief that the Volksgemeinschaft and state take priority over religious authority often rendered Nazism to take hostile action towards certain Christian groups, such as that of the Catholics. An attempt was made to create a sort of
positive Christianity that would have combined the teachings of Jesus Christ with Nazism, though this mostly went nowhere.
Gottgläubig
Gottgläubig was the religion of National Socialism. In the German Reich, gottgläubig was a National Socialist religious term for a form of non-denominationalism and deism practised by those German citizens who had officially left Christian churches but professed faith in some higher power or divine creator. Such people were called Gottgläubige, and the term for the overall movement was Gottgläubigkeit; the term denotes someone who still believes in a God, although without having any institutional religious affiliation. In essential measure, it is faith without religion. These National Socialists were not favourable towards religious institutions of their time, nor did they tolerate
atheism of any type within their ranks. The 1943 Philosophical Dictionary defined gottgläubig as: "official designation for those who profess a kind of piety and morality appropriate to the [German] species, without being bound to a church denomination, whilst however also rejecting irreligion and godlessness." The Gottgläubigkeit was a form of deism, and was "predominantly based on creationist and deistic views". In the 1939 census, 3.5% of the German population identified as gottgläubig.
Believers in Gottgläubig were fanatical National Socialists who identified the NSDAP and SS as their new church. They saw themselves as "religious" outside the Christian denominations. SS leader Heydrich spoke of the commitment to "church-free German religiosity". Their credo was the National-Socialist worldview, personified in the Führer figure. Their view of God was broadly deistic, in keeping with National Socialist principles. They believed that Nature itself was the human expression of the evolution of the cosmos, which transcends individual human life. The cosmos, and its expressions such as Nature, are understood as a kind of
Being, something alive which has
existence,
which changes,
and which causes or brings about changes in those other types of
Being which are part of the cosmos and thus part of Nature.
This cosmic Being was not anthropomorphic; it was not thought of as possessing human form. Rather, it was a suprahuman form of Being, beyond description or depiction. One could sense or experience its presence, particularly in aspects of Nature. For human beings, this Being was most manifest in Nature. Thus Gottgläubigers held Nature, and her creations, in reverence. They were pagans who saw the cosmos as divine and understood themselves as part of it—born from it and belonging to it. The cosmos, and its visible manifestations such as Nature, constituted the sacred.
They conceived of the cosmos as a unique type of Being, made manifest through its creations, products of evolution and change. Evolution, as such, was the very life of this Being. The evolutionary creations we observe, including Nature and ourselves, were thus its “body,” its mode of living. Human beings, possessing thought, could be the consciousness of the cosmos itself.
This cosmic Being governs human life; we are subject to its laws and processes. The cosmos gave us our Fate: bestowing fortune or misfortune. Man was what he was because of this Being. The purpose of human life was to discover our nature, act upon that understanding, and live so as to enhance the life of the cosmic Being. To act profanely was to act harmfully against this Being, and thereby against ourselves. Such behaviour would bring inevitable suffering. To aid this Being, one had to respect what it had produced. For humanity, this means respecting Nature, which is the form the Being takes on Earth. Through such reverence and right living, man could evolve in consciousness and health, and ultimately transcend his mortal condition. The goal was to become one with the cosmic Being, to achieve Immortality, not in the Christian sense, but by merging with the cosmos itself.
The immortal becomes the awareness of the cosmos, the consciousness of all creation. The individuality of mortal life expanded to partake in the suprahuman Being, furthering its evolution and extending its vitality. In this way, the dead lived on: in the Volk, in the soil, and in the eternal spirit of Nature. They became the living soul of their people, the animating essence of future creation.
Maternalism
A core element of society under Nazism is the basic family structure, with mothers producing and
fathers providing, under the basis of the 3Ks: kinder (Children), küche (Kitchen), kirche (Church). Due to the declining birth rates during the
Weimar Republic era, Hitler took measures to increase birth rates and succeeded with the increase from 1.6 average children per woman in 1933 to 2.6 average children per woman in 1940, by offering favourable loans and grants to newlyweds and encouraged them to give birth to offspring by providing them with additional incentives, and ban on abortion and birth contraptions. However, this issue isn’t as important to him as is
Religion or
Race.
One of the lesser-known facets of feminist movements can be observed within the context of Germany, particularly during the rise of National Socialism. Despite prevailing viewpoints among some fellow National Socialists that feminism was incompatible, Jewish, or unfavorable, it is essential to note that the Nazi movement garnered substantial support from women. In the March 1932 presidential election, approximately 26.5% of German women cast their votes for Hitler. Furthermore, in the September 1931 elections, Nazi candidates received approximately 3 million votes from women, representing nearly half of the total 6.5 million votes garnered by the Nazi party.
The Frauenwerk, a government-sponsored organization for women's activities, attracted over 4 million participants. Additionally, 5 million women belonged to the women's division of the German Labor Front. The Nazi regime encouraged the establishment of such organizations to mobilize women across various spheres of the Reich, promoting the rejuvenation of femininity. Notably, within the realm of Nazi feminism, Sophie Rogge-Börner, a teacher and writer, emerged as one of the prominent figures. Rogge-Börner, along with other members of the NSDAP's feminist block, based their feminism on the idealization of a semi-mythical Nordic Golden Age characterized by sexual equality. They believed that a true national community, founded upon harmony and class comradeship, would be unattainable as long as the state continued to discriminate against women based on their gender.
Although Sophie Rogge-Börner never officially joined the NSDAP, she had been associated with various German völkisch groups, including the National Socialist Freedom Movement. Despite her non-membership, she remained a fervent supporter of National Socialism, actively participating in the völkisch literary movement. Like many German nationalists, she greeted the new Hitler government in 1933 with great enthusiasm. Upon Hitler's rise to power, Sophie compiled a memorandum, which was subsequently published as the lead article in the newly established National Socialist journal, The German Female Fighter. Later, her work, along with multiple similar articles on Nazi feminism, was compiled into the 1933 book titled German Women Address to Adolf Hitler. This publication received a brief written acknowledgement from Prussian Reich Commissioner Göring.
While the book was eventually banned by the government in 1937, it did lead to minor reforms. These reforms primarily focused on women's organizations, maternal support, affordable housing, and other pro-family and pro-mother policies, bearing similarities to those implemented under Italian Fascism and the BUF.
Quoting from the memorandum:
“In all other areas of civic life, the necessity of bringing in the foremost influence of women applies just as much. This claim to a greater area of responsibility cannot be dismissed as feminism. The Volk have an inalienable right to leadership by the best Germans, regardless of sex. The Volk comprises the entirety of the people; if it is to prosper, it can therefore only be led through the whole of the people. The best men and the best women have to share in the leadership of the nation. Men and women must participate in every leadership office.” — Sophie Rogge-Börner, German Women Address to Adolf Hitler
Sophie Rogge-Börner held the belief that the pursuit of gender equality was intricately tied to anti-Semitism and the notion of Nordic beauty. According to her perspective, the Germanic peoples had a historical foundation in which women enjoyed complete equality and the opportunity to manifest their potential fully. The Nazi feminists, including Rogge-Börner, advocated for the idea that women could be priestesses, leaders, and even warriors. They drew upon sources such as the Edda, Icelandic sagas, Hervarar saga, Gesta Danorum, and the writings of Tacitus to support their claims regarding this Nordic concept of feminism.
These Nazi feminists utilized National Socialist principles, which held that Germanness represented the highest ideal, to argue that Germany should model itself after the Nordic era. This formed the basis of Volkish Feminism. It is important to note, however, that while many of Rogge-Börner's ideas regarding complete gender equality were not implemented by Hitler's regime, she remained loyal to National Socialism throughout World War II. Even after the war, Sophie continued to express support for Hitler and National Socialism until her death.
Interestingly, the National Socialists even had a mural depicting various feminists, including Hedwig Heyl, Auguste Schmidt, and Helene Lange, with a caption that acknowledged their contributions.
“We respect all genuine achievements made in earlier times, because they correspond to the spirit of National Socialism.” — Adolf Hitler, The Path of Women mural
In 1926, Emma Hadlich, a feminist, ignited a debate with an article in the National Observer, the official newspaper of the NSDAP. In her piece, Hadlich criticized Elsbeth Zander, the head of the women's organization affiliated with the NSDAP. This led to a series of charges and countercharges published in the newspaper from January to April 1926. Many of the issues raised during this debate resurfaced in 1933 with the publication of German Women Address to Adolf Hitler. Even after the National Socialists assumed power, Nazi feminists continued to express their views. They believed that while women were different from men, they possessed full capabilities, intelligence, and the ability to contribute to the German people in ways beyond motherhood. According to their vision of a truly German society, women would work and fight alongside men, collectively striving for the well-being of the community. Nazi feminists drew upon anthropological theories that postulated matriarchy as the earliest form of social organization. Moreover, they argued that in ancient Germanic society, men and women held equal importance. The debate between Nazi feminists and their opponents primarily revolved around the historical nature of Germanic society rather than the desired conditions for the future. While the arguments put forth by Nazi feminists aligned with National Socialist principles, one woman, Irmgard Reichenau, surpassed these boundaries and adopted lines of reasoning reminiscent of radical modern liberal feminism. In her essay on "Gifted Women," which she sent to Hitler in March 1932, Reichenau argued that women should have access to influential positions not only for the benefit of the state but also for their fulfillment. She defended career women against accusations of causing unemployment and opting to remain single, as well as the notion that they lacked desire for children. Reichenau accused men of seeking comfort in marriage while avoiding strong, intelligent women. She asserted that talented women with careers would make better mothers than those solely focused on motherhood. To support her argument, she cited examples of accomplished women such as Maria Theresa, who had sixteen children, and Clara Schumann, who had eight. Reichenau warned that unused talents often manifested in other ways, such as hysteria, neurosis, and domestic tyranny. Beyond the ideological dispute itself, what is particularly intriguing about this debate is the absence of doctrinal rigidity. Alfred Rosenberg acknowledged that Hadlich's original article and Zander's response revealed the range of ideas held by these feminist Nazis. He suggested that it would be best to discuss these differences openly. Other writers noted that the conflict demonstrated the movement's vitality. Ultimately, Rosenberg left the issue to the party leadership, emphasizing that all differences of opinion should yield to the central struggle against Capitalism, Marxism, and Jewry. In 1933, when these issues were raised again, Irmgard opened her book with two quotations from Hitler—one calling on anyone who perceived danger to the people to combat evil openly, and the other stating that "He who loves Germany may criticize us." Rosenberg clarified in the National Observer that his comments on Hadlich's article were not intended to imply that women were inferior to men, but rather to highlight the differences in their psyches and biology. Despite Rosenberg's efforts to conclude the debate in the newspaper, Nazi feminists continued to criticize him for his views. Irmgard even went so far as to accuse him of being a Jew for promoting sexism. Consequently, many feminists involved with the National Socialist movement faced censorship by the German state. For more information on Nazi feminists, one can refer to the book Mobilizing Woman For War by Leila J. Rupp. As depicted in the book, women held numerous positions within the Third Reich. They served in women's administrations, contributed to women's education, worked as professors and scholars, and served in the police and fire services, transportation, camps, offices, auxiliary military roles, and medicine as nurses, doctors, and military administrators. Women were also involved in politics and aviation. Several women received commendations, including the Iron Cross and the Golden Party Badge. The German Luftwaffe even had one of the first female pilots. In 1944, a significant number of women took on combat flights to release male pilots for active duty, while hundreds of women became gliding instructors. Among them was Hanna Reitsch, a renowned test pilot who had received numerous honors and accolades. In 1945, she participated in combat, carrying out the last flight into and out of Berlin.
After the war, in her last interview, she said this:
“And what have we now in Germany? A country of bankers and car-makers. Even our great army has gone soft. Soldiers wear beards and question orders. I am not ashamed to say I believed in National Socialism. I still wear the Iron Cross with diamonds Hitler gave me. But today in all of Germany you can't find a single person who voted Adolf Hitler into power. Many Germans feel guilty about the war. But they don't explain the real guilt we share – that we lost.” — Hanna Reitsch, interview with Ron Laytner
Additionally, examining the role of Eleanor Bauer offers further insight into this topic. Bauer played a pivotal role as one of the key founders of the NSDAP, assisting Hitler from its inception. She initially served as a nurse during World War I. She later provided support to the Freikorps Oberland troops during their conflicts against the Bavarian Soviet Republic and in the Baltic campaign of 1919. Bauer's arrest on March 11, 1920, for disturbing the peace after delivering an anti-Semitic speech at a women's rally in Munich ultimately resulted in her acquittal, solidifying her status as a hero within the Nazi movement. Notably, she sustained injuries during the Beer Hall Putsch and was the only woman to participate in this event actively. In recognition of her involvement, Bauer was honored with the Blood Order, one of the highest decorations awarded by the party and bestowed upon only 16 German women. Remaining a close confidante of Hitler, Bauer held a prominent position within his inner circle. Heinrich Himmler even appointed her as the welfare sister for the Waffen-SS, elevating her to the rank equivalent of an SS Oberführer, or a Waffen-SS General. In 1934, Bauer established the National Socialist Order of Sisters, an organization dedicated to nursing, and assumed the position of honorary chairwoman in 1937. Her contributions were further acknowledged with the award of the Golden Party Badge. Under the Nazi regime, she was promoted as the embodiment of the ideal Nazi woman, with Der Spiegel referring to her as "the nurse of the Nazi nation." Bauer received several medals, including the Silesian Eagle Order, the Silver Medal for Bravery, and the Baltikum Cross. Importantly, even after the war, Bauer never renounced National Socialism and remained steadfast in her convictions, displaying unwavering self-confidence.
Deutsche Physik and Nuclear Program
Deutsche Physik, or Aryan Physics, was a nationalist movement in the German physics community in the early 1930s which had the support of many eminent physicists in Germany. The term was taken from the title of a four-volume physics textbook by Nobel laureate Philipp Lenard in the 1930s. Deutsche Physik was opposed to the work of Albert Einstein and other modern theoretically based physics, which was disparagingly labeled "Jewish physics" (German: Jüdische Physik). When the Nazis entered the political scene, Lenard quickly attempted to ally himself with them, joining the party at an early stage. With another Nobel laureate in Physics, Johannes Stark, Lenard began a core campaign to label Einstein's relativity as Jewish physics. Nuclear fission was discovered in December 1938 by chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann and physicists Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch, two of whom were Jewish. Lenard and Stark benefited considerably from this Nazi support. Under the rallying cry that physics should be more "German" and "Aryan", Lenard and Stark embarked on a Nazi-endorsed plan to replace physicists at German universities with "Aryan physicists". By 1935, though, this campaign was superseded by the Nuremberg Laws of 1935. There were no longer any Jewish physics professors in Germany, since under the Nuremberg Laws, Jews were not allowed to work in universities. Stark in particular also tried to install himself as the national authority on "German" physics under the principle of Gleichschaltung (literally, "coordination") applied to other professional disciplines. Under this Nazi-era paradigm, academic disciplines and professional fields followed a strictly linear hierarchy created along ideological lines. Politicization of German academia under the Nazi régime of 1933–1945 had driven many physicists, engineers, and mathematicians out of Germany as early as 1933. Those of Jewish heritage who did not leave were quickly purged, further thinning the ranks of researchers. The politicization of the universities, along with German armed forces demands for more manpower (many scientists and technical personnel were conscripted, despite possessing technical and engineering skills), substantially reduced the number of able German physicists. The figureheads of "Aryan physics" met with moderate success, but the support from the Nazi Party was not as great as Lenard and Stark would have preferred. They began to fall from influence after a long period of harassment of quantum physicist Werner Heisenberg, which included getting him labeled a "White Jew" in Das Schwarze Korps. Heisenberg was an extremely eminent physicist, and the Nazis realized that they were better off with him rather than without, however "Jewish" his theory might be in the eyes of Stark and Lenard. In a historic moment, Heisenberg's mother rang Heinrich Himmler's mother and asked her whether she would please tell the SS to give "Werner" a break. After beginning a full character evaluation, which Heisenberg both instigated and passed, Himmler forbade further attack on the physicist. Heisenberg would later employ his "Jewish physics" in the German project to develop nuclear fission for the purposes of nuclear weapons or nuclear energy use. Himmler promised Heisenberg that after Germany won the war, the SS would finance a physics institute to be directed by Heisenberg. Lenard began to play less and less of a role, and soon Stark ran into even more difficulty, as other scientists and industrialists known for being exceptionally "Aryan" came to the defense of relativity and quantum mechanics. Nazi Germany undertook several research programs relating to nuclear technology, including nuclear weapons and nuclear reactors, before and during World War II. These were variously called Uranverein (Uranium Club) or Uranprojekt (Uranium Project). The first effort started in April 1939, just months after the discovery of nuclear fission in Berlin in December 1938, but ended only a few months later, shortly ahead of the September 1939 German invasion of Poland, for which many notable German physicists were drafted into the Wehrmacht. A second effort under the administrative purview of the Wehrmacht's Heereswaffenamt began on September 1, 1939, the day of the invasion of Poland. The program eventually expanded into three main efforts: Uranmaschine (nuclear reactor) development, uranium and heavy water production, and uranium isotope separation. Eventually, the German military determined that nuclear fission would not contribute significantly to the war, and in January 1942 the Heereswaffenamt turned the program over to the Reich Research Council (Reichsforschungsrat) while continuing to fund the activity. The program was split up among nine major institutes where the directors dominated research and set their own objectives. Subsequently, the number of scientists working on applied nuclear fission began to diminish as many researchers applied their talents to more pressing wartime demands. The most influential people in the Uranverein included Kurt Diebner, Abraham Esau, Walther Gerlach, and Erich Schumann. Schumann was one of the most powerful and influential physicists in Germany. Diebner, throughout the life of the nuclear weapon project, had more control over nuclear-fission research than did Walther Bothe, Klaus Clusius, Otto Hahn, Paul Harteck, or Werner Heisenberg. Esau was appointed as Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring's plenipotentiary for nuclear-physics research in December 1942, and was succeeded by Walther Gerlach after he resigned in December 1943. Developments took place in several phases, but in the words of historian Mark Walker, it ultimately became "frozen at the laboratory level" with the "modest goal" to "build a nuclear reactor which could sustain a nuclear fission chain reaction for a significant amount of time and to achieve the complete separation of at least tiny amounts of the uranium isotopes". The scholarly consensus is that it failed to achieve these goals, and that despite fears at the time, the Germans had never been close to producing nuclear weapons.
Homophobia
Homosexuality is considered degenerate in the eyes of Nazism. When they are present,
gays and
lesbians are considered to be untermensch and will be sent to prison or directly to concentration camps. Under these conditions, it is still unknown how
Homofascism came to be. Ernst Julius Günther Röhm, one of the few homosexual Nazis who were eventually purged, was a fervent advocate of this ideology. After WW2, the National Socialist League (NSL) was founded as a neo-Nazi organization of gay men in the United States that existed from 1974 until 1984.
Animal Welfare & Environmental Policies
Nazism had elements supportive of animal rights. The Nazi government took several measures aiming to protect the animals. In 1933, the Nazis enacted a stringent animal-protection law that affected what was allowed for medical research (the law was only loosely enforced, and in spite of a ban on vivisection, the Ministry of the Interior readily handed out permits for experiments on animals). The Reich Forestry Office under Göring enforced regulations that required foresters to plant a variety of trees to ensure suitable habitat for wildlife, and the regime enacted the Reich Nature Protection Act in 1935 to protect the natural landscape, though some report it was done in a process of "Germanization" of forests in conquered territory, where they would be emptied to then be stocked with purely "Teutonic" species, including eagles, elk, and wolves. Nature worship wasn't introduced by Nazis in Germany as it goes back to the origins of modern romanticism, of which its influence has since then been transverse to german culture and its political spectrum, including Social Democrats and Marxists. However, Nazi ideology laid the blame for alienation, rootlessness and environmental destruction on rationalism, cosmopolitanism, and urban civilization - all of which they connected to jewry - instead of locating its source in social and economic structures. The “green” aspect of Nazism, such as its attitude towards forest preservation, stayed entirely within a conservative and/or reactionary conception of environmental policy. Furthermore, what is often stressed in Nazism as part of its environmental discourse: its exaltation of the virtues of rurality against cosmopolitan urban life; was actually from the Völkisch movement, and was surfing on an already present sentiment among youth culture which rejected civic engagement outright and embraced a communal, back-to-the-land lifestyle instead, both pertaining more to agrarian tendencies. By the late 1930s, what could be linked to environmentalism in Nazi rhetoric eventually moved out from their concerns as they prepared Germany for global conflagration, and disappeared after the war started. Thus, if perfunctory efforts were made to curb air pollution, little enforcement of existing legislation was undertaken once the war began.

Variants
Divide within Nazi circles
Often (Serious) Nazi circles have a strong disdain for Neo-Nazis
and are shown to often break the mainstream view of Aryanism. Nazism (In a serious sense) is seen as organic. In these circles (Mostly) they view Nazism as being able to be applied to any Aryan nation. Example: France can possibly support Esoteric Nazism since the connection with Blood and Soil regarding the Franks and among other forms. Other subjects within these circles are Slavs
and Asians
. There are more modern divergences and serious debates in underground discord and telegram channels.

National Socialism Association/Taiwanese Nazism
The National Socialism Association (NSA) was created by Hsu Na-chi and Chao Lahn, citing dissatisfaction towards the political factions in Taiwan as one of the factors of founding the NSA. The association stresses on the "restoration of Confucianism" and "fostering greater nationalism in Taiwan", while denying claims of antisemitism and racism despite Confucianism and Nazism are contradictory and incompatible, specifically in terms on stances towards meritocracy.
Personality and Behaviour
Nazism is typically portrayed as easily annoyed and quickly prone to violence. He is incredibly anti-semitic and will also often kill anyone who calls him a "leftist", as well as any other ideology he does not identify with. He speaks with a thick, stereotypical German (or in several cases, Austrian) accent.
How it acts
(how the ideology reacts to other ideologies generally)
Aesthetics
(the general aesthetics of the ideology)
Stylistic Notes
Nazism can be depicted as a talented and compelling villain, antagonist of the year, 80 years running apart from being a stereotypical yandere. However, he could also be depicted just as easily as a raving, incoherent, opportunistic maniac. His weapon of choice is the stylish Luger Pistole Parabellum or occasionally a flammenwerfer.
How to draw
Symbols
[!] Note: Some countries and social media platforms (especially Facebook) banned Nazi imageries such as this flag, therefore for the censored version, replace the swastika with the Iron Cross/+/f letter (Refer Polandball guidelines on drawing swastika)/Poorly-drawn swastika (refer Hale Hortler meme) symbol.
Flags
The flag is based on the flag of Nazi Germany, used between 1933 to 1945 or the party flag of the NSDAP.
Props
Nazism is almost always wearing Hitler's peak cap/Stahlhelm/Wehrmacht military cap or Schutzstaffel uniform.

It rather looks as if the real God takes no notice of the prayers offered day and night by the British and the Americans, but reserves His mercies for the heroes of Japan. It is not surprising that this should be so, for the religion of the Japanese is above all a cult of heroism, and its heroes are those who do not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the glory and safety of their country. The Christians, on the other hand, prefer to honour the Saints, that is to say, a man who succeeds in standing on one leg for years at a time, or one who prefers to lie on a bed of thorns rather than to respond to the smiles of inviting maidens. There is something very unhealthy about Christianity."

Reactionaryism - I had to warn followers repeatedly against these German folklore-ish wandering scholars who never accomplished anything positive or practical, except to cultivate their own overflowing self-conceit. A new movement must guard itself against an influx of people whose only recommendation is their own declaration... It's typical of such people that they rant about ancient Teutonic heroes of the dim and distant ages, stone axes, battle spears, and shields; whereas in reality they themselves are the biggest cowards imaginable. Those very same people who brandish Teutonic tin swords and wear tanned bearskins, with ox horns mounted over their bearded faces... scatter when the first communist cudgel appears. Posterity will have little occasion to write a new epic about their heroic existence...And yet these comedians are extremely proud of themselves. Notwithstanding their proven incompetence, they pretend to know everything better than other people-so much so that they become a real plague to all sincere and honest patriots, to whom not only the heroism of the past is worthy of honor, but who also feel bound to leave examples of their own work for the inspiration of posterity. — Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

Notes
- ↑ Hitler took many inspirations from Darwin's theory of evolution and appropriated it in shaping his racial Darwinist view of human history, though he wasn't familiar with Darwin until after 1923. And yet, while Hitler believed that evolutionary theory justified his destructive and oppressive vision, this does not undermine the theory's basis; what people do with an idea has no bearing on the scientific validity of that idea. Using Hitler's supposed belief in evolution as an argument against evolutionary science is an example of the logical fallacy of an argument from adverse consequences, suggesting that we should not accept the theory of evolution because it could lead to the kind of racist views perpetuated by Hitler. It is also an example of the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, implying that because Darwin's theory came into being before Hitler's racism, the former necessarily caused the latter. Even if there were connections between the theory of evolution, social Darwinism and the Holocaust, this does not imply that evolution is a dangerous theory, only that Hitler perverted the theory to justify his beliefs and actions.
- ↑ Throughout World War II, Hitler often compared himself to Frederick II the Great, and he kept a copy of Anton Graff's portrait of Frederick with him to the end in the Führerbunker in Berlin.
- ↑ Although he both privately and publicly hated capitalism in his understanding, Hitler held admiration towards Henry Ford and his antisemitism. "I wish I could send some of my shock troops to Chicago and other big American cities to help in the elections. We look on Heinrich Ford as the leader of the growing fascist movement in America. We admire particularly his anti-Jewish policy which is the Bavarian fascist platform."
- ↑ According to leftists and some historians.
- ↑ TIKhistory believes that Hitler held Gnostic views, though it is rather debatable.
- ↑ Hitler believed in the idea of a strongman, Übermensch, etc.
- ↑ "Of course, the latter made no secret of his attitude toward the Jewish people, and when necessary he even took the whip to drive from the temple of the Lord this adversary of all humanity, who then as always saw in religion nothing but an instrument for his business existence. In return, Christ was nailed to the cross, while our present-day party Christians debase themselves to begging for Jewish votes at elections and later try to arrange political swindles with atheistic Jewish parties - and this against their own nation." -
Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
- ↑ Hitler would refer to himself as a "True Socialist" and claimed that he was taking the word back from the Marxists. It is worth noting, however, that both Hitler himself and the National Socialist ideology as a whole regarded the word "socialism" as a synonym for the word "nationalism".
- ↑ Ernst Thälmann and the Communist Party of Germany targeted Social Democrat politicians instead because they thought Nazis coming to power would accelerate the collapse of capitalism, which at the time seemed preferable to the slow and reformist nature of moderate Marxists in the SDP

- ↑ "Third Position" is the best compromise between left wing and right wing viewpoints. The question of whether or not Nazi Germany was truly socialist or in fact capitalist is often debated.
- ↑ While some female figures within the Nazi movement held feminist views, the Nazi movement as a whole was staunchly patriarchal.

- ↑ At least on a domestic level, most of the Nazi party, including Hitler himself, rejected capitalism for being a “Jewish conspiracy” in the same level as communism, especially ideologically. Instead, they believed in class collaboration via the Volksgemeinschaft. Ironically, both domestically and when it came to foreign policy, the Nazis weren’t above working with businessmen sympathetic to their cause if it helped them achieve their political goals. (E.g. Krupp, IG Farben and Henry Ford.)
- ↑ I had to warn followers repeatedly against these German folklore-ish wandering scholars who never accomplished anything positive or practical, except to cultivate their own overflowing self-conceit.
- ↑ Nazism's economic and social organization aligned with collectivist or communitarian ideals, focusing on a national community united by shared interests.
- ↑ While his ideas concerning race were influential, it should be noted that Spengler was against the racist biology of Nazism and its policies based on the distinction between the "Aryan" and Jewish races. He considered antisemitism to be a simplistic solution to the problems of the time. Spengler's books were banned during the Third Reich. His metaphysical vision of race can be presented as independent from National Socialism.
- ↑ While Hitler despised the Freikorps' lack of centralization, their ideas helped shape Nazi thought, and many former Freikorps members joined the Nazis, despite others opposing them.
