And the third republic was eventually destroyed when Marshal Phillipe Petian signed an armistice. After the the short struggle in France, Petian established an authoritarian government that strongly regulated the economy and abolished many liberal policies. For the media, it was also tightly controlled to promote Anti-Semitic and Anti-Communist views.
