Newspeak was a criticism of the tendency within the English language to become more and more simplified in such a way that nuance is removed from the language, something Orwell also talked about in his essay ''Politics and the English Language''.

There are various iterations of the Newspeak dictionary, and one of Winston Smith’s associates, Syme, is working on the text. The language reduces words to syllables and combines them together to create new, unusual words.
When constructing this language, Orwell was influenced by real-life examples in Germany and Russia. The term “Nazi” is a reduction of “nationalsozialist” and “Gestapo” is a reduction of “Geheime Staatspolizei.” These syllabic abbreviations come from a human willingness to make complicated things easier. Today, the term “Newspeak” is applied in contemporary life when someone tries to introduce a new word into the vocabulary, particularly when politicians do so.
George Orwell wrote a great deal about language, including his essay “Politics and the English Language,” published in 1946. He also included an appendix at the back of ''1984'' that deals with the concepts of Newspeak.

Doublethink is based on the various ideological contradictions totalitarian states would go to, to achieve their political goals. For example, the way that in Nazi Germany the enemy was portrayed as both inferior to the Germans, yet also as controlling the entire world from the shadows. It is basically state-mandated horseshoe mentality.
The term is used several times throughout the novel and is experienced by multiple characters. It is also one of the three most important principles of INGSOC (along with the mutability of the past and Newspeak).
When discussing the use of doublethink and its definition, the narrator states that “doublethink” is required to understand the use of “doublethink.”
Often, Smith wonders if “he alone” is “in possession of a memory?” It seems to Smith that everyone, including those he believes, is more intelligent, has entirely forgotten the past and is willing to erase any parts of their memory that Big Brother tells them to. The telescreen has the features of television. Messages and videos will play on the telescreens throughout the city, and request programs will play that citizens have to watch.
