The relationship between anarcho-capitalism and anarchism seems challenging to delineate. At its core, anarcho-capitalism opposes the state based on a libertarian suspicion of state power, with less influence from the libertarian left. Despite Murray Rothbard's exploration of left-wing anarchism, the term "anarchism" has long been associated with the libertarian left, thus carrying an anti-capitalist inclination.
However, in reality, prominent anarchists such as Stirner, Proudhon, Benjamin Tucker, and Bakunin have expressed aversion to communist doctrines. Engels criticized anarchism, so if anarcho-capitalism is excluded, anarchocommunism would be similarly excluded.
Rothbard argued that anarcho-capitalism is not a form of "mainstream anarchism." In addition to maintaining private property and free markets, anarcho-capitalism advocates for the retention of law, denies moralism, and rejects utopianism. Present-day anarcho-capitalists also disdain seeking acknowledgment from left-wing anarchists.
