    Mahathirism - Pharaoh version

Where did such an silly association of Mahartir with ancient Egyptian monarchs begin?

Template:UserNoel21231: The associaton between Mahathir and Egyptian pharoahs were stemmed from the "Reformasi" protests, which the then opposition called Mahathir a tyrant/dictator due to his authoritarian tendencies in his first term (1982-2003, see Ops Lalang and 1998 Reformasi, following the sacking of DPM Anwar Ibrahim) . As Muslims co-relate Egyptian pharoahs (Firaun in Malay) as tyrants, hence the nickname "Mahafiraun" alongside with "Mahazalim" (Zalim - Cruel in Malay) especially pro-Anwar supporters during pre-2016. Picrel attached was the Mahafiraun protest sign during the Bersih rally in KL. Even broadcasters were prohibited to use that term since Mahathir took over in 2018, indicating the popular usage by anti-Mahathirists
