The teachings of The Tribes have changed over time, originally Mormons believed all Native Americans were descended from Israelites and still had strong cultural connections to Israel and Judaism. Modern Mormonism teaches Israelites were '''''among''''' The ancestors of Native Americans, and Israelite influence on Native Americans has been lost to time.

==Anarchronicisms in The Book of Mormon==
There are various things mentioned in The Book of Mormon that didn't exist yet in Ancient America. Horses, elephants, Cattle and Cows, Goats, Swine, Barely, Wheat, Chariots, Silk, compasses, windows, metal, steel, iron, and the usage of The Egyptian language. As well as some brand-new introductions, The Book of Mormon mentions two animals "Curelom and Cumom" claiming they're 'very helpful' animals. Nothing is mentioned about their looks, identity, or texture.

The most notable anachronism is the claim that Ancient Native Americans had horses, which weren't available in The Americas at the time. Mormon scholars substituted horses for tapirs, which made tapirs a symbol for ex-Mormons.

In 1997, Mormons founded an apologetic organization called Faithful Answers, Informed Response (FAIR), also known as "FAIRMormon"
