“We can not have equilibrium in this world with the current inequality and destruction of Mother Earth. Capitalism is what is causing this problem and it needs to end.”
Eco-Socialism (shortened to EcoSoc) is an environmentalist, economically left-wing and otherwise varied ideology. He believes that the reduction of CO2 emissions and socialist-style economics are complementary, as pollution is the result of mainly Capitalist commodity production.
It is very close to Socialism economically, but more varied in other ways. It believes that Capitalism will destroy the planet and that we need to have a revolution. Unlike Eco-Fascism, it believes all people should be treated equally. But it also believes in extreme environmentalism.
Foundations and Beliefs
Economics
Eco-Socialism believes in the abolition of Capitalism, in the belief that it puts profits over the environment and the establishment of a socialist economy that is environmentally sensitive and sustainable. It can range anywhere from being centrally planned to being organized around worker co-ops.
Civics
Eco-Socialism is, most of the time, found around the left centre of the political compass; around the center of the civic axis on the left. But this may not always be the case.
Some Eco-Socialists may have more authoritarian views, while others may be more libertarian in their politics. Largely depends on who you ask.
Culture
Exactly the same as the civics of Eco-Socialism, their cultural values could vary. While most people on the left, including Eco-Socialists, are generally progressive, you could, from time to time, run into people who are more conservative or traditional.
Variants
American Greenism
American Greenism is an ideology based on the values of the Green Party of the United States. Its ideals are based on the rejection of Capitalism and State Socialism, and embracement of Libertarian Municipalism, Ecological Socialism, and Economic Mutualism, with state companies dominating various sectors in a democratic way and with small private sector companies. Many Greens consider themselves Libertarian Socialists, including the 2020 presidential candidate, Howie Hawkins.
Values
On top of the Four Pillars of green politics which include ecological wisdom, social justice, grassroots democracy and nonviolence, the Green Party also has a set of Ten Key Values that expand on the concept which include the following extra: decentralization, community-based economics, feminism and gender equality, respect for diversity, personal and global responsibility and future focus on sustainability.
Domestic Policy
They were the first to push for a "Green New Deal" (originally created by European Greens), which would be for a transition to 100% green energy along with a carbon tax, in addition to others, including increased jobs, and an Economic Bill of Rights. Services that would be for free include single-payer healthcare, universal basic income, all public (including higher) education, child care, and urban mass transit. Goods and services that would be available at low cost would include public housing, power, broadband, and water.
Other positions would include strong opposition to privatization, canceling student debt, the right to contraceptives and abortions, access to medical treatment for transgender people and protecting other LGBTQ+ rights, protecting animal rights, promoting secularism and the separation of church and state, reparations to African Americans, legalization of marijuana and ending the "War on Drugs", repeal of three strike laws, end of death penalty, and banning private prisons.
Economy
The eco-socialist economy the Green Party of the United States wants to create is similar to the market socialist mutualist economics of Proudhon which consists of a large sector of democratically controlled public enterprises, a large sector of cooperative enterprises, and a smaller sector of small businesses and self-employed. Consumer goods and services would be sold to consumers in the market by cooperatives, public enterprises, and small businesses. The party will also create cooperative banks offering low interest somewhat similar to Proudhon's Mutualist banks.
Foreign Policy
The Green Party adapts Pacifism and Alter-Globalism. The Green Party supports a ban on arms sales to foreign countries, banning nuclear testing, cutting the military budget in half, cutting foreign aid to countries with poor LGBTQ+ rights records, support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, signing the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, the Iran nuclear deal, and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Power Distribution
Green ideology emphasizes participatory democracy and the principle of "thinking globally, acting locally." As such, the ideal Green Party is thought to grow from the bottom up, from neighborhood to municipal to (eco-)regional to national levels as inspired by Libertarian Municipalism. The goal is to rule by a consensus decision making process as practiced in Democratic Confederalism.
Melenchonism
Main Article Left-Wing Populism
Mélenchonism is an ideology based on the views of the French politician Jean-Luc Mélenchon. He was a member of the French National Assembly and a member of the European Parliament. In the 2022 elections, he came close to making it to the second round of the presidential election, with 22%.

- Fill it in red.
- Draw the outline of a leaf in green.
- Draw a straight, green line down the center of the "hollow" part of the leaf
- Draw green lines coming out of the line in the center in both directions with spaces large enough to go over the "hollow" part of the leaf.
